The company
John is a founder member of Barnsley’s Secret Theatre Company and has recently been appointed ‘Writer in Residence’ at The Lamproom Theatre.
Writing credits include the musical, ‘Mr Scrooge’, the 1997 national touring production of ‘Randal’s Scandals’ featuring Last Of The Summer Wine’s Keith Clifford and Coronation Street’s Katherine Kelly. In 1992 he wrote the highly acclaimed ‘Worsbrough Mysteries’.
For The Lamproom Theatre his work includes, ‘The Poor Widow’s Sons’ (One Act Play) and The Ryecroft Trilogy; ‘Sparkies’, ‘Dreamers’ and ‘Turns’
He worked extensively as musician and comedian on the Northern Clubland Circuit, on the Irish Folk Club scene and in the U.S.A. Whilst in America, he portrayed ‘The Murderer’ in Agatha Chrisite’s ‘Mousetrap’
In his home town, John has been the Chairman of Barnsley Theatre Trust since its inception in 1992 and is a member of Barnsley’s Culture and Arts Partnership, Barnsley’s Cultural Forum and is the founder member of the writer’s group - ‘inklings - Next Chapter’.
John is a broadcaster for BBC Radio Sheffield.
